Wheelbarrow Race 2020 (Rules & Information)

Fundraising Events

Once again, we invite you to throw off the covers and the hangovers on New Year’s Day
and welcome the New Year with a wheelbarrow race around our local Hampton Park
green to raise funds for charity starting at 1200.

This a fancy dress event and we hope that all who wish to participate will don fancy dress
and decorate their wheelbarrow for the race. Wheelbarrows are kindly loaned to us for the
event can be made available should you require one but please let us know in advance.

The purpose of this is primarily about having fun, raising a few pennies for charity and
starting the New Year in a positive and enjoyable way within our local community so
please come and participate, help or spectate.

We would very much like to encourage teams to be sponsored to race and sponsorship
forms are available to download online from where the
rules are also available.

There will be a prize for best dressed team and wheelbarrow, for the winning team and for
the team collecting the most sponsorship as well as medals for all.

We will be serving up a chilli, hot dogs and refreshments in the Pavilion afterwards to
help refuel where a raffle will also be held with fantastic prizes kindly donated by local
businesses including family days out and meals in local restaurants amongst others.
We look forward to this being another success and for all to have a great time.

  1. The race will consist of three laps of the green and involve a
wheelbarrow and up to five people.
  2. Each wheelbarrow must be pushed by only two persons at
    any one time.
  3. Each wheelbarrow must at all times contain at least one
person, more will be acceptable, though inadvisable!
  4. Three full laps of the Hampton Park Green must be completed
    to accomplish the challenge.
  5. The ‘formidable’ hills involved in this trial by wheelbarrow
have been taken into account and therefore changes of
pushers will be permissible, but all who push or ride must
also complete the whole course with up to a maximum of five
per team. These changes may take place at the start/finish
point, which teams will pass twice in the course of the race
where refreshment may be provided to teams by supporters.
  6. Cheering, jeering and general noise and support is very much
encouraged to help the wheelbarrow teams on their way.
  7. Chilli, hot dogs and refreshments will be available in the
    pavilion following the race.

Thank you so much for your support.
